NEW HOPE WHILE WAITING FOR TRANSPLANT

Hello; I finally have something new to report. On Sandra's last visit to the Kidney Clinic, she got some encouraging news. It seems that there is a new product being tested, that is as close to an artificial kidney as you can get. I have enclosed the link to the site that is promoting AWAK, the new hope for people on dialysis, and to those who are waiting for a kidney. Please let me know what you think. Hugs, Christina

Dear Christina,

I am busy on the internet trying to locate folks who were on dialysis prior to April of 2006, who are willing to speak with a reporter for a national story she is doing. I just read a little of Sandra's story.

Might she be available for contact from the reporter? Might you be kind enough to connect me with other potential interviewees?

I look forward to hearing from you, and to answering any questions you might have.

Thank you,

Hello

My name is Rama Rau and I'm a documentary filmmaker based out of Toronto. I'm in the process of making a much-needed film on the state of the medical industry with particular attention to kidney donation and the long waiting lists in Canada/ The film will explore different problems that kidney patients face as they wait for a solution, especially where they are forced to go abroad for an organ.

TV Ontario, an education based TV channel has expressed that they will back the documentary. It will also be shown in all parts of Canada and the US. I wondered if I could see if your daughter would be interested in being in the documentary? It will be helpful to me if I can access stories like hers and other kidney dialysis patients, who are caught in waiting lists and may be thinking of going abroad as my documentary will highlight the need for more organ donation in Canada and will also raise questions like 'presumed consent' etc to raise awareness among people about the long waiting lists and the urgent need to donate organs while comparing what other countries are doing to tackle this problem.

I wonder if there are any websites where dialysis patients log on to advertise that they are in need of a kidney? Where do patients go, to look for organ donors, any information, any possible patient leads is extremely helpful, as I believe a film such as this is absolutely critical in raising awareness of present problems in the organ waiting list. I hope you can help in any way possible, so this film can be made to show people the need we have in Canada so more and more can donate their organs.

Thanks so much, I look forward to hearing from you

Rama

Greetings, I found your blog through the website matchingdonors.com. I must say that I am touched by your story and saddened by what you are going through. I just enrolled in the site today to become an organ donor and hoping to be able to help out. I am an 0+ young guy, who always wanted to help others, coming across this site has given me that opportunity. If you think I can help your daughter I would be delited to try all I can. I can only hope for her life to get better, I am thankful to be in good health at the moment and hoping I will remain the same for years to come, being able to help someone in need would be a great thing, even if I too become vulnerable to a certain disease I know that atleast I was able to help someone out. You can contact me at genisjose@yahoo.com. Have a great day.

Hey Everyone! I found a GREAT book about living organ donation. It helps potential donors understand the process from beginning to end. It is a wonderful story for anyone considering organ donation and can also help recipients better understand what their donor may be experiencing. I encourage all of you to check it out! Here is a link to the website to learn more about the book - http://livingkidneydonorbook.webs.com/

Thank you to everyone who has responded to this blog. I am deeply touched by the people who have expressed their wish to donate a kidney to Sandra. It is with great regret that we have to decline such selfless, and loving gift. Due to the requirement of the transplant society we are unable to accept a donation from someone other than a relative, or a close friend. We hope to be able to get around that somehow. At the last visit with the transplant team, we were told they may, in the near future not be so rigid about the "close friend" relationship.
Thanks
