How Could I Have Forgotten?

How could I have forgotten the most important issue of all? The blood type! Sandra is a type 0+ blood type. Someone with type 0 is a universal donor, which means that people with other blood types are not limited to their own blood type, but can also receive an organ from a type 0 donor. However, a type 0 recipient is restricted only to a type 0 donor. That is why the waiting period for a transplant is a lot longer for someone with type 0 blood group.

actually the waiting time is the shortest for people with blood type O, as it is the most common blood type (I think its somewhere between 40-60% of the population).

I know it is confusing. We were also under the impression that the wait time would be shorter for someone with type O because it is the most common blood type. However, where we live, a type O recipient is out of luck on the waiting list, and have to wait for up to ten years as of 2006.
The following link has some stats.
